The Mysteries Of Scale

IMG_7820-8

Edith is very curious about anything Claire is working on.  Today it is the ruler that caught her attention!

I find it fascinating the range of scales that can work with the Minifee.  Minifee are 1:4 scale, which can be hard to find, so a lot of the things I use in the doll world are meant for other sizes of dolls.

The ruler looks perfectly proportioned for Claire, yet it is in 1:6 scale the same as the pencil, which is really too small.

The box of cupcakes is actually 1:12 scale, which shouldn't work at all, but somehow does!  The spools of thread and the scissors are from an Our Generation (18 inch play doll like American Girl dolls), and the are perfect for her!  But nearly everything else from that set is too big...

It's a mystery! LOL

  1. I'm finding scales a bit confusing right now. Is 1:12 scale smaller than 1:6? I've been hunting for some doll size wallpaper for my diorama and I came across some for 1:12 but wasn't sure if that was larger or smaller than 1:6.

I haven't tried hunting for stuff for my MSDs yet but I'd love to get them some furniture. I have one chair that is an okay scale for them but I find it slightly big.

And food, there are some great stuff out there for 1:6 scale fashion dolls.

I keep forgetting how small Edith is until I see her with your other sized dolls. So cute.

  2. The scales ARE confusing, or at least I also find them to be! 1:12 is smaller, and works with dolls no taller than a Puki.

There is such a lot of awesome 1:6 stuff, which is designed to work with a doll the height of Barbie. The slim Minis like MNF are at about 1:4 scale, and sometimes you find that size under BJD, and sometimes under 16 inch fasion dolls like Ellwyne, Tyler, or Gene.

It does seem to be hit or miss though, and sometimes you can use an item meant for a much smaller doll. :D

Have you seen D-Lightful Designs food? She has a variety of scales, and they are great! :D

    1. Thanks for the info on the scales! Hmm, what a shame that the 1:12 are smaller. The wallpapers were really nice. Ack. Back to the drawing board.

Thanks for the link to D-Lightful Designs. They have some scrumptious looking stuff on there. I hadn't seen them yet.

  3. You have some super props there Randomfish, I love how you seem to find just the right things for your dolls, regardless of the scale....everything works very well. I was hoping that the 1/12th scale would work well with my little Elfdolls and to some extent it's not bad but in others it make them look like giants!!!! But my biggest 'bug bear' here is not so much the scale but actually finding props at all.....it is very frustrating. I saw a gorgeous chair on Saturday, it was all wooden and what I think is called a 'captains chair'. It was being used as a display item in a florist, there were helium balloons attached to the back. The shop owner couldn't remember where she got it from though and said that obviously it wasn't for sale. It would have been just perfect for my bjds!!!!

    1. Oh, I can sympathize. At one store I was in they had this complete miniature model of a desk, that would have fit MNF perfectly....but of course it was a display model and not something you could buy!! It is too bad that the shop owner couldn't remember where she got the chair you saw. :(
